Review: Le Monde Hotel - Edinburgh
If I get the chance to go on a mini city break, the hotel is a crucial decision to make when sorting out the details; in Edinburgh, you are spoiled for choice. Le Monde Hotel was a place I’d known about for a while and I’d visited the bar/ restaurant on a number of occasions. As soon as I saw the opportunity to stay for a few nights, I took the chance.
As a quaint and comfortable boutique hotel in the city centre, it’s location couldn't be any better suited for a short stay in Scotland’s capital. When you walk into the reception, you are greeted by a modern, chic aesthetic and the scent of two "Amber Noir" candles burning on either side of an ornate grandmother clock. On check-in, you are given your room key that will say the room number and the name of your room (In my case '301, Paris’). You are also given what looks reminiscent of a plane ticket to give to the restaurant and bar if you want anything taken to your room.
Each room at Le Monde is unique: they are all themed around international cities of the world. I stayed in an executive level room themed around the city of Paris. The deep reds and ornate gold touches around the room gave you the feeling of France with all the comforts of a modern hotel. It was a big space that boasted a decent view over George Street with separate toilet and shower rooms as well as automatic blinds and dimmable mood lighting. The bath/shower (rainfall) room was ideal for a long soak with a bath bomb, before heading out for the night. Also, for a city centre room, it was remarkably quiet and getting a decent nights sleep was a breeze.
At points, I didn’t feel like I was ‘in a hotel’. Every member of staff I came in touch with- like the receptionists who provided umbrellas when they saw it was raining outside or the bar manager who delivered freshly prepared cocktails to the room for no extra charge- they all went that extra few steps to make a good stay a great one. There was definitely a feeling of home away from home with the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere which made the stay a pleasure and I genuinely regretted not staying an extra night.
