Bottomless Pasta in New York
I had a dream once. I was sitting in an Italian restaurant in Manhattan, enjoying a fabulous bottle of wine and servers kept coming to the table with a never ending selection of freshly made delicious pasta. I knew it was a dream because when the bill arrived, I didn’t have to offer them a kidney as part payment.
I never woke up from this, because it wasn’t a dream. It was the Sinfonia di Paste special on offer at Becco in New York City. For $36.95 you get unlimited table side pasta service and an appetizer.
This came to us as a recommendation from one of the tour guides on ‘The Ride’. She was a New Yorker and we thought a word of mouth recommendation was more gratifying than a Google. We went right before the dinner rush on a weekday so getting a table was no brother. The service was quick, friendly and the vibes were immaculate.
The food was sensational. To start you can have either Insalata Cesare (Caesar salad) or Antipasto Misto (marinated & grilled vegetables with assorted seafood). Both were exceptionally well prepared and dressed.
Then the main event. Servers with silver trays wander around and offer you a trio of fresh pasta dishes from Executive Chef William Gallagher's daily preparations. They frequently change but when we were there they seemed to follow a pattern of one vegetarian, one meat and one fish. This culinary event allows you to try them all and then double up on your favourites. For example, they had a crab linguine on offer that was truly something special.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this fabulous deal is not to be missed, and no, they do not judge you no matter how many times you say yes.
