Review - Yo Glasgow

July 10, 2017 by Chris Quilietti in Food and Drink, Review

There are a handful of things I’m genuinely obsessed with, and one of them is Sushi. When the original Glasgow City Centre Yo Sushi shut down I was one of the many distraught people who could no longer go, but now that the popular brand has returned to the (just off) Buchanan Street we can all get our fix of Yo.

Since opening it's been extremely popular, there’s even been one (verified) occasion of the restaurant closing early as the kitchen had run out of food. Which is a problem but a good problem to have. They’ve put up shop in a listed building on West George Street and from the moment you turn the corner the bright orange logo is striking. The refurbished interior reveals the original metal pillars dating back to 1872 and the floor to ceiling glass wall that circles the ground floor lets in a lot of natural light giving the place a bright, modern feel.

On Arrival we had to wait for a table, it's to be expected, given that this branch had just opened and there's been a lot of buzz around it. The server was kind and welcoming even though the lunchtime rush was no doubt taking its toll. Once seated the neat thing is you can start eating right away by picking off the iconic Yo Sushi Belt.

Fine end to a lovely day in the granite city.

Although very odd to hear people with strong Aberdonian accents making Sushi.#Aberdeen pic.twitter.com/l4rMjxHiLX

What the Yo belt looked like (From the Aberdeen Yo)

A Selection Of The Dishes That Were Had:

Tofu Katsu Curry *****   Inari Nigiri *****   Duck Gyoza *****

Furikake Fries ***    Popcorn Shrimp ****    Spicy Chicken Roll ***

Salmon Maki ****  Salmon Nigiri ****

The food was fresh and flavour full, I'd particularly suggest the Tofu Katsu Curry, the chicken version is very good but the tofu bursts with flavour in a unique way. Im also a big fan of the Salmon dishes that meld nicely with a generous dipping of Soy sauce, it was also nice knowing that the salmon in the Glasgow branch comes from Scottish suppliers as part of the Yo's commitment to Scotland.

While it can be on the pricy side, a trip to Yo every few weeks is a treat. A slightly left of field dinning experience mixed with fresh ingredients and efficient service.

I can review the film in one sentence. Wonka is a great, feel-good, family film, but it’s not a good musical.
