5 of The Best Places for Brunch on Glasgow's Southside
The southside of Glasgow is thriving, from Pollokshields to Cathcart the area is bursting with places to eat, drink and enjoy the south of the city. Glasgow overall has an excellent reputation for brunch and south of the river holds its own.
Here are some of my favorites.
E-Street Café
I discovered this place in lockdown when they only did take away and I fell for them. Described as “A smooth-talking, fast-walking, love-making, soul-shaking, hip-thrusting, tastebud-rocking, coffee-s” the Bon-Jovi loving lot make amazing food and give you friendly, quick service. Their entire vibe is efficient but with a rye smile that makes them fun to follow on social media too. Highly recommend their staple “Southside Johnny”...
Cafe Strange Brew
There’s nothing I can say about this strange brew that hasn’t already been said by the reviews on their seemingly endless list of 5 star reviews. This palace is a southside institution for a reason. You won’t be disappointed.
Cafe Samalgundi
As well as great coffee and charming service, Samalgundi has some of the most innovative and creative flavors you will find. Along with a selection of cafe staples their special dishes are always top teri. From ‘Tartiflette with honey and horseradish roast beetroot, which has been pan fried with rainbow chard and olives served with a poached egg’ to ‘Slow cooked harissa lamb, matchstick potatoes, pitta, fried egg, chilli feta, cucumber and radish’. GO here.
The Bungo
Here you’ll find a far more traditional bunch with a couple of tasty surprises. Alongside a breakfast roll you can have southern fried buttermilk chicken or korean kimchi & blue cheese baked eggs. But the thing to write home about is their Breakfast Martini, a genius mix of london hill gin, vermouth, blueberry jam & juice - class and classy.
Bramble Cafe
Nestled in the middle of Pollokshaws Road is this treat of a brunch spot. No reservations, so take an early walk through Queens Park and enjoy their creative and seasonal delights.
