7 Little Ways You Should Treat Yourself
You spend a lot of time looking after other people, birthdays, Christmas and that friend that just needs to talk at you for a minute till they calm down and that’s fine. Looking after others is a wonderful thing but you absolutely must look after yourself too. Take the advice you give others and treat yourself.
Got to a Spa/ DIY Spa.
You’ve said for a while you’ve like to go to a spa well why don’t you? There are reasonably priced places you can go to, you just have to make time for it. As well at that, go to Lush with a budget and tell them you want to treat yourself to a DIY spa. This can be face masks, robes, exfoliation, nails and hair. All things you can do at home easily. You can also create a steam room by running your shower at hot for 20 minutes with the windows closed… but that’s wasteful and bad for the electrics so don’t do that.

Travel independently/ Staycation
Everyone had that place that sort of nearby that they’ve always wanted to visit but just haven’t yet. A local attraction or monument, maybe just a town you haven’t been too before. Staycations are fun and can be inexpensive because you can stay overnight for free in your own place.
If you’re feeling more flush, go for a weekend to a new city, maybe in a different country but try not to pack your day full of 100 things to do. Pick a couple of things for your itinerary and give yourself plenty of time between so that you don’t have to rush. I’ve done Berlin in the past as well as places closer to home like Inverness.
Only Go To New Bars or Restaurants
I’ve stolen this one from something Conan O’Brian said about living in LA. When he and a friend hang out they only go to restaurants that have existed since the 80’s. I found this really interesting as it forces you to do your research and commit to going to a place that you may not thought of before. So find a bar or restaurant that has existed since then or at least from before you were born and try it out.
New Pants/ Socks/ Bra
It’s simple but nothing beats a nice new set of socks and pants and finding underwear you feel good in only boosts your confidence.
Pizza and Wine
This one is just for me, but you’re more than welcome to have it. Taking a good friend or loved one to a great pizza place, getting a bottle of wine and just chatting for hours about everything and nothing. It does me the world of good.
Give Yourself a Useful Gift
Get yourself a gift, something that’s practical like a new notebook, headphones or travel card holder. Taking small steps to improve your daily routine or time at home. Something like a new mug, if you like a big cup of tea get a big mug that's just for you. Doodle on the edge of the page? Go to Staples or Paperchase and get a doodle-book that you can express yourself in.
Re-comfort Your Bedroom
We spend over 20 years of our lives asleep, why sleep on nails? Unless that’s your thing. Treating yourself to new pillows is good, but what’s better is figuring out what kind of pillows you prefer and getting the best ones for your nocturnal routine. New mattresses are expensive and doesn't count as a ‘little’ way to treat yourself but you can get a mattress topper that completely changes the way your bed feels, I have one and I don’t think I can go back to the old times of a mere mattress. Also, get a blanket, it might be rare in the Scotland but for the times when it's too hot for the full duvet but when it is, whip out the blanket. The same goes for when the normal cover isn’t enough, it’s extra layer of warmth.
